More about Joseph Avram Bryan Memorial Scholarship Fund and College:
The Joseph A. Bryan Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in February of 2021 between the family of Joseph (Avram) Bryan and the St. Marys College of Maryland Foundation to benefit students attending St. Marys College of Maryland. The scholarship fund provides annual awards up $1000.00 to first year students with academic merit and a demonstrated promise in the arts.
St. Marys College of Maryland is a National Public Honors College, and an independent public institution in the liberal arts tradition. The college promotes challenging students to achieve academic excellence through classroom activities, experiential learning, and close relationships with the faculty. Founded on the site of Maryland’s first capital, the college stands as a living legacy to the ideals of freedom and inclusiveness. The college, designated as a Maryland state honors college in 1992, is consistently ranked as one of the top public liberal arts colleges in the nation. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education through 2024-2025.
Joseph (Avram) Bryan was the only son of Joseph (Ken) Bryan, who loved his family and especially his young daughter Angeliya. He was known for his artistic abilities and became a very proficient artist in various mediums to include drawing, painting and even creative tattoo design. His view of art was much like what famous artist Edward Degas once said, “Art is not what you see but what you make others see.”
His love for the visual arts did not stop there. When he was a young boy, Avram helped his father Ken work on and build hot rods and classic cars which they even entered into shows. Like his father, he also had a passion for working on his own cars and trucks and enjoyed attending car shows and events just like this one we are having today in honor of his scholarship fund.
